Spaying Your Pet

The primary reason for spaying your pet is to control the pet overpopulation problem.  Spaying also provides health benefits such as preventing mammary cancer and uterine infections.  Dogs and cats should be spayed between 5 and 6 months of age before they go into heat.  Even one heat cycle can increase the chance of mammary cancer by 50%.  Spaying can also eliminate the behavior problems that are seen when a cat is in heat.  When animals are spayed, both ovaries and the uterus are removed.  Great care is taken to insure that all animals undergoing a spay surgery are in good health inside and out, and are provided with pre and post operative pain control.
