Nutrition for Dogs

Unlike cats, dogs are omnivores and require high qualities of plant and animal proteins, as well as fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.  The nutrients must also be highly digestible.  The American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) tests many diets to ensure proper nutrient balance.  Always look for the AAFCO sign when evaluating dog foods.  If a dog is fed a quality diet, no other supplements (canned food, vitamins, etc) are required.  Proper nutrition can help prevent obesity problems and other health concerns.
